We’ve all been there. The crossroads of considering whether to change up your current look with the addition of some great bangs. Along with a consultation from one of our trusted stylists, the following questions can help you figure out whether or not you should take the plunge and what type of bang you should get.
1. What is the texture of your hair?
The day-to-day reality is that bangs can be more of a challenge with curly hair, unless you plan on straightening them everyday. If you have wavy hair, side bangs work well or you can always straighten to pull them forward. Straight hair works perfectly for full on forward hanging bangs.
2. How thick is your hair?
Thin or fine hair can also make bangs a bit more challenging, but not impossible. Soft, feathered bangs work well with thin hair. To create the illusion of thicker bangs, start further back on your head so the fringe looks full.
3. Do you regularly exercise and get sweaty?
At the gym, bangs have a tendency to get sweaty and stick to your forehead. The answer: make sure you have a thick headband in your gym bag to sweep your bangs off your face.
4. Do you have time to style your bangs everyday?
Committing to bangs is also committing to waking up earlier to style them. Keep in mind that bangs sit on one of the oiliest parts of your face, so you may need to wash them more often than you wash the rest of your hair. You can also invest in a good quality dry shampoo to refresh your bangs.
5. Can you commit to regular trims?
Full frontal bangs require trims about every 2-3 weeks to maintain the optimal length and shape. Side bangs are a little lower maintenance and you can go longer between trims.
6. The biggest question: will you look good in bangs?
The right bangs with the right maintenance can flatter any type of hair style and face shape. When you come to your appointment, bring pictures of bang styles that you like. But also be open-minded to listen to suggestions from your stylist as to what will work best with your unique features.
