We’ve all seen the photos of beautiful models with glowing skin and want to mimic that flawlessness at home. You wash your face, apply SPF, day crème, night crème and eye crème without achieving the results that you seek. Could it be that you are improperly applying your beauty products? Experts say yes!
First, start out with a freshly washed face. This will allow any products applied to the skin the ability to work properly and not clog pores with sweat, grime and makeup. Only use products designed for your skin type; oily, normal, dry or sensitive. Products designed for oily skin tend to be lighter in consistency. Products designed for dry skin are heavier and sensitive products have no perfumes and less chance of causing any irritation. Everyone can use sensitive skin products. Moisturizer is best applied to a damp face which helps the product lock any available moisture to your skin.
Scoop about a quarter size dollop of moisturizer onto your clean finger tips and rub between them to emulsify. Dot the moisturizer on your forehead, cheeks, chin, neck and décolleté. It is imperative not to forget the neck and décolleté. Lightly pat the crème and spread in circular motions all over your face, excluding your eye area. Once your face is done, move to the base of your neck and using upward strokes lightly massage the moisturizer in until it’s absorbed. Next, lightly apply the remaining moisturizer into your décolleté region. Do not apply moisturizer vigorously, it can cause irritation to the skin.
Moisturizing your eye area is a little different. There are many wonderful eye creams available in the market today. Or you can properly apply your facial moisturizer to your eye area, and it will perform beautifully. Starting with a clean, damp face scoop out a little dollop of your moisturizer onto your fingertips and rub them together to emulsify. Using one hand for each eye, take three fingers of each hand and tap a few times above each of your eyebrows and below on the top of your cheek. Working from the middle of your forehead out to your temples and back to your nose very lightly massage the moisturizer into the skin. Then you’ll do three more circles closer to your eye, starting from under your eyebrows, out to your temples and back to your nose. The skin around your eye is very thin and working from the outside and moving towards your nose puts less strain on those delicate tissues.
Our faces are one of the first things people notice when they meet us for the first time. Proper usage and application of moisturizer can take years off your skins overall appearance, reduce puffiness and help give us a healthy glow.
