While the cooler temperatures may be slow to move into Baton Rouge, we are still fairly certain fall is in the air!

Time to break out all things plaid, cozy sweaters, stylish boots and an updated skincare routine. As the temperatures drop and the air becomes drier, your skin will start to lose moisture. Now is the perfect to time to exfoliate and moisturize for skincare for fall in Baton Rouge.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is the removal of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Gross, we know – but hang with us. By removing the barrier of dry, flaky skin, your moisturizing products will be able to penetrate more deeply into your skin. Exfoliation is the key to transitioning from dull, rough and dry to fresh, healthy skin.

Moisturize
  • Thicken Up – As the air becomes drier, you may need to switch to a thicker moisturizer. Cream moisturizers have a higher oil content than lotions and are better suited for colder, drier seasons. If you feel like cream moisturizers are too difficult to absorb, try applying immediately after your shower or bath to see if you get better results.

  • Lips – The skin on your lips is very thin and sensitive to weather conditions. Start using a natural lip balm now to prevent dry, cracked lips this winter. Applying lip balm before you go to bed is especially effective because of the uninterrupted hours the balm will be given to work the magic.

  • Hands – Again, you may need to switch to a cream based hand moisturizer and put extra effort into nighttime moisturizing to prevent rough hands this season. Another tip is to cut back on the hand washing. Of course, you need to wash your hands after using the restroom, before preparing or eating food or when caring for a sick person. But frequently washing your hands after every little thing can suck the moisture right out of your skin. Wearing gloves during harsh weather is another hand saving must.

If you still find yourself in a losing battle with your dry skin, be sure you are staying fully hydrated and consider using a humidifier. Also, be sure to let us know how we can help you put your best skin forward this season!
